Controlled drugs: be a witness
In short
Every controlled-drug movement needs a second person. When asked, the witness picks their name and types their 4-digit PIN on the same screen.
Who: pharmacists and technicians (and managers). Never a cashier, and never the person recording the movement.
Your PIN says you saw the medicine and quantity handed over. Check both before you sign.
Witness a hand-over
- After the pharmacist signs off a controlled drug, Witness Sign-Off opens.
- Under Witness, choose your name.
- Type your 4-digit PIN.
- Choose Sign and Hand Over (or Sign Off for the Till when it's paid at the till).
If something goes wrong
- "No one else at this branch can witness controlled drugs…" Another pharmacist or technician needs to be at the branch.
- "The witness must be a different person from the recorder."
- "That person can’t witness controlled drugs." Cashiers can't witness.
